PARTICIPATION OF ARWACHINIANS IN THE "HELLO JAPAN" PROGRAMME

A group of 42 Japanese language students from classes 7 to 10, along with their Japanese language teachers, Mrs.Vandana Jain and Ms.MimansaThapliyal, participated enthusiastically in the "Hello Japan" programme organized by the Japan Information Centre, Embassy of Japan, on 29th August 2024. The event aimed to provide students with first-hand exposure to Japanese lifestyles, culture, and educational opportunities in Japan.

The programme began with an introductory quiz about Japan, which tested the students' interest and knowledge of the country and its culture. This was followed by a session detailing various scholarship opportunities available to foreign students in Japan, covering a wide range of courses.

The students then engaged in traditional Japanese games such as Kendama and the Kanji card game, an enthusiastic and interactive way to learn about the Japanese language and culture. The activities continued with Origami, Yukata wearing, and Water Calligraphy, offering hands-on experience with Japanese traditions.

A highlight of the event was the students' performance of the popular Japanese song from the anime "Doraemon," which was met with great enthusiasm. The programme concluded with a thanks note by a participating student. The feedback forms were also distributed by the Embassy, ensuring that the organizers could gather valuable insights for future events.

Overall, the "Hello Japan" programme was a great success, providing both students and teachers with a memorable, enjoyable, and educational experience.

                                            REPORT ON GENDER SENSITIVITY WORKSHOP

Our school recently participated in a  transformative CBP on Gender Sensitivity, led by Poonam Chaubey, a seasoned expert with many years of experience in child sensitisation and gender awareness. The session aimed to educate teachers on the importance of maintaining an unbiased attitude towards children of all genders and fostering a gender-positive environment within our school community.

Ms. Chaubey began the workshop by highlighting the significance of recognising and addressing gender stereotypes that often influence our perceptions and interactions. Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, she demonstrated how unconscious biases could affect our behaviour and decision-making, especially in educational settings.

One of the key takeaways from the workshop was learning how to identify these biases and actively work towards eliminating them. Sheemphasised the importance of treating all children equally, regardless of gender, and encouraged us to question our assumptions and language use. By doing so, we can create an inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and respected.

The workshop also provided practical strategies to create a gender-positive environment in schools. Many classroom activities were suggested that would help to promote gender equality, using inclusive language, and ensure that school policies reflect a commitment to gender sensitivity. Additionally, she encouraged teachers to be role models, demonstrating gender-sensitive behaviour in their interactions with students.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, where participants shared their thoughts and experiences, and Ms. Chaubey provided insightful responses and further guidance. The workshop left a lasting impact on all attendees, equipping us with the knowledge and tools to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for every student.
