        CBSE-i IN ACTION
         Traffic Summit 2013

Social Empowerment through Work and Action (SEWA) is an integral component of CBSE-i. The objective of this programme is to highlight the importance of interdependence of all human beings in this shrinking global village. Keeping the purpose of SEWA in mind the teachers undertake projects to sensitize the children towards others and make them responsible individuals.

Road safety and obeying traffic rules was one such project and a lot of thought was put in to deciding ways that would be best to influence the community. Hence on December 14th 2013 students and teachers of CBSE-I decided to call a Traffic Summit. The parents were invited to participate and help spread awareness.

The auditorium had an exhibition corner where our teachers proudly displayed the work done by the students from clay modeling to work sheets or SEWA diaries. Parents at the exhibition corner were given badges and were asked to sign the pledge sheets through which they promised to sincerely follow all the traffic rules and make Delhi roads safe.

One of our other major displays was the Traffic Park which was made by the students under the guidance of our talented art teachers. It was set up on the second floor of our school building. Roads were laid down and traffic lights and signs were erected at different parts, and to add the final touch the children were asked to navigate the different modes of transport, while following the traffic rules.

The one hour informative event included recitation and road safety songs sung by our little tots, mime and street play which highlighted issues of road rage, drinking and driving, over speeding and also a wonderful dance performance by the students on a medley of songs related to road safety. But one of the favorites was the quiz which had the adults quivering in their seats. The students of CBSE-I quizzed our esteemed guests and parents on traffic rules.

At the end we had our esteemed guests, Mr. Arun Sharma, Mrs. Sandra Swarup, CBSE-I coordinator and Mrs. Gracy Peter, our Principal speak to us a few words of wisdom and share with us their experiences with us. We concluded our day with the singing of the National Anthem.

                NINE IS MINE CAMPAIGN

                5th  DEC’2013

The students of class XI were a part of the “Nine is Mine” program, at Jantar Mantar, which was organised on 5th December,2013 and was aimed to remind the Indian Bureaucracy of the nine percent share of the GDP that they had promised to the children of the nation for their health and education.

The program began at 10:00am. First the “Manzil” group resented a few heart-touching songs focussing the problems of the ‘Dalit’ community. Then we saw different dance performances and street plays and also listened to varied types of songs and parodies based upon the theme. The cause was promoted and the feeling for it went deep in our hearts as we witnessed the proceedings of the program with provoking slogans in between. The students were exposed to the harsh reality of this incredible, diverse nation, where illiteracy rules the mindsets of the nation. Not just this, poverty, corruption, and lack of basic needs for the common man are some other curses which we were and we are fighting for. Discrimination and ill –treatment towards the “Dalits” was also a major issue of the campaign on which our street play was based.

We all were divided in different groups with two or three schools in each. We were put in Group A and the coordinator of our group was Mr. Manish. During the time “Manzil“group was giving its performances, the different schools also performed within their own groups. When we performed for the first time we were not audible as there were no mikes available. Then later, when we went to the centre-stage for our performance, we all gave our best and were also appreciated by the viewers. We also got refreshments. Brother Steve appreciated our performance a lot and gave special thanks to our Principal and Director (Academics). We watched many other performances. At the end there was a cycle rally by the children belonging to the “Dalit” community which was followed by our slogans on the Protestor’s Street. We also contributed to the “Pension Parishad Campaign”as well, who were demanding for one percent share in the GDP exclusively for the development of the old people.

The overall participation and experience for the Arwachinians was remarkable.
