Christmas at Arwachin was celebrated with great zeal and fervor on 23rd of December, 2014.  Mrs. Peter graced the occasion with her presence.

The celeberation began with the rhyme ‘Happy Christmas’ presented by LKG children. It was followed by a skit on Christ’s birth, presented by the UKG children, with a mime act on the carol, ‘Come they told me...’ Thereafter, the children of LKG gave a very energetic dance performance on the song, Jingle Bell Rocks.’

After that the children of UKG presented a very celebrated rhyme, ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas….’ The celeberation carried on with a very captivating dance by UKG on the song ‘ We Sway.’ The energetic and vigorous dance on the action song, Must be Santa’ gave the final colour to the whole celeberation. Thereafter Santa came and distributed candies amongst the children.

      A VISIT TO PARLIAMENT HOUSE

On 18th, 19th and 22nd December, 2014, students of classes 9 and 10 visited the Parliament House along with their teachers where they got a lifetime opportunity to see Indian democracy at work. The excitement was palpable, the curiosity overflowing and the questions endless. As the tour started, after ample frisking and checking at every entry point, the serenity of this stately institute swept us all to watch Lok Sabha in action on all the three days.

The chamber of Lok Sabha is adorned with a green carpet – to signify grass root politicians – we were told. We looked down from the visitor’s gallery, and saw the place where India is run from. Students observed the smallest details- and had a hundred questions ranging from the emblems of the princely states to the seating arrangements.

The students absorbed history with every breath, and learnt about their unit with every step. Children went through several security checks and got the clearance. The controversy among politicians centred on whether e-rickshaws should be allowed to ply on the streets of Delhi or not, implementation of MNREGA, and conversion issues during the afternoon session of the Lok Sabha where our students listened to UnionTransport minister, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Manohar Parrikar, Venkaiah Naidu and other parliamertarians including L. K. Advani, Paresh Rawal, Pappu Yadav, Ranjeeta Yadav, etc.  They watched the MPs raising issues, demanding answers; slogans and voices getting drowned in the din.

At noon, when both Houses got back to work, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister assured the Opposition that the controversies had worried the government as well.  "We are open to an inquiry and try to find out solutions," said Venkaiah Naidu.

This was a big achievement for the students who tried recounting the famous personalities they saw in the House. The students were satisfied and they won't forget this trip in a long time.

Pro-Social Peer Moderator Meet on Study and Exam Skills

It has been seen that children and adolescents respond best to their peers, and there by developing a pro-social peer program where students can learn from their own peers is of prime importance. This is a unique platform where through intensive and interactive workshops; students from various schools come together to learn new skills and to reach out to their classmates and juniors- to learn to be role models for the future. On 4th December 2014, senior students of different schools from Delhi and NCR region were invited by Fortis Hospital, Noida for a Pro-Social Peer Moderator Meet.

Examinations are an inevitable part of every student’s life, but how they deal with them dictates, to a great extent, their experience of the formative years of their life. The module on STUDY and EXAM SKILLS enabled students to cope with the social, institutional and personal demands related to academics. At the same time, it was also designed to improve skills and strategies, to inculcate effective studying practices. Through some interactive sessions the team highlighted many missteps that the students tend to make while cramming to take an exam, many myths were busted and the students were also taught better ways of learning, revising and finally giving the exams. Concentration games were played which would help the students to increase their attention span. The children were taught effective methods of learning along with reasons as to why they work. The informal way in which the team interacted with the students helped them to open up, mingle and speak freely

The meet concluded with the taking of a fun group photograph, bursting of balloons and an informal chat. The entire group of students made a promise to stay in touch and spread awareness among est school mates.
