YOUTH CHAMPIONS/PEER COUNSELLORS TRAINING PROGRAMME
To strengthen the mental health support system within the school and promote peer-led well-being initiatives, a Youth Champions / Peer Counsellors Training Programme was conducted by Arwachin International School, in collaboration with the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS). The programme aimed to build a team of responsible and empathetic student leaders from classes IX to XII who could act as the first line of support for their peers, promoting emotional resilience and positive mental health.
During the training programme, resource persons from IHBAS engaged students in interactive modules covering topics such as understanding emotions, stress management, empathy building, communication skills, active listening, handling peer pressure, and referral mechanisms. The sessions emphasized the importance of confidentiality, non-judgmental attitude, and timely reporting to responsible adults when needed.
The selected students, now designated as Youth Champions / Peer Counsellors, will work under the guidance of the School Counsellor, Mrs. Aafreen Sarfaraz to promote awareness about mental health through classroom discussions, campaigns, and peer-to-peer interactions. They will also assist in organizing well-being activities and provide a compassionate ear to the students in distress.
A total of 30 students from Classes IX–XII participated in the training. The initiative empowered them with vital life skills, fostering leadership and sensitivity towards emotional well-being within the school community.
The programme reflected the ongoing commitment of the school to nurture a safe, inclusive, and mentally healthy environment for all learners.
