Seminar
on Life Skills
On the 20th
of May 2017, two teachers of Arwachin International School, Mrs. Priya Grover
(English Teacher) and Mrs. Thanya Yohannan (School Counselor), had the
opportunity to attend a workshop at Nutan Vidya Mandir School, Dilshad Garden, on
the importance of ‘Life Skills’ in our curriculum and methods to educate our
students about them. The workshop commenced at 9:00 AM which continued till
5:00 PM in the evening.
The workshop
recognized the value of creating awareness about Life Skills, keeping our
school curriculum in perspective. The event aimed at developing a sense of
self-confidence among teachers when it comes to handling life skills as a
subject and how it can be made a part of our daily studies, be it English, Math
or Science.
The eminent CBSE
speaker who herself was an English teacher conducted many activities through
which the importance of life skill was dispersed.
All the ten life
skills were highlighted and each group of teachers was asked to demonstrate the
plus points of having and mastering that particular skill, like coping with
stress or effective communication. Short stories were given to each group of
teachers and they were asked to enact each story. At the same time the audience
had to spot all the life skills that were displayed during the act.
The teachers
were even grouped into their teaching subjects like Hindi, Math, Science etc
and were asked to come up with ways to disperse life skills as part of their
course syllabus. For example, while teaching about elections and voting process
we can highlight life skills like ‘effective communication’, ‘coping with
stress’ and ‘decision making’.
It was a very
fruitful seminar.
