How do We Develop Ourselves for the Changing Indian Classroom?

How do We Develop Ourselves for the Changing Indian Classroom?

    Webinar

Orient Black Swan conducted an interesting and instructive webinar on June 24, 2022. Prof. Kalyan Chattopadhyay was the resource person. He discussed the classes we were in yesterday, today, and have tomorrow. Earlier, we had the Gurukul system, which had a different emphasis on the subject matter, instructional strategies, and instructor’s goals. He also talked about how the epidemic was beneficial since it gave us experience teaching online.

Many classroom arrangements today are set up similarly to a flipped classroom. Both blended learning and MOOCs are used in classrooms. He also spoke about the modifications that NEP had suggested (2020).

Today, teachers explain a concept through a variety of apps and websites. This is quintessential as our world has become increasingly technologically dependent.

He shared some advice for using the teaching-learning process while retaining the adjustments needed in our classrooms.

    It was an informative session.

      ADAPTIVE AND ACTIVE LEARNING

                                            ADAPTIVE AND ACTIVE LEARNING

CoE Bhubaneswar conducted a workshop on "Adaptive and Active Learning" on June 22. Ms. Sutapa Acharya served as the expert source. Ms. Harshita Kawatraattended this session. Understanding and implementing the idea of adaptive and active learning in the classroom was the workshop's main goal.

Ms. Acharya introduced the workshop by discussing the numerous online teaching and learning techniques that are currently being used. In contrast to the traditional learning, adaptive learning tailors instruction to each student's prior understanding of a certain subject or topic. Active learning, on the other hand, is experiential learning that develops information and promotes higher-order thinking abilities.

Students benefit from adaptive learning because it respects existing knowledge, responds to different learning demands, and closes comprehension gaps. Teachers gain from adaptive learning as well since they may use new-age teaching tools and aids for instruction, keep track of students' development, and focus on their weakest areas.

The resource person also used Bloom’s Taxonomy to demonstrate how active learning may be accomplished utilizing the fundamentals of adaptive learning.

      It was an informative session.

            HARIT UTHSAV,2022

                                                                                                                  HARIT UTHSAV, 2022

The Department of Forest and Wildlife, GNCTD celebrated Harit Utsav on World Environment Day i.e. 5th June, 2022 at Indira Gandhi Stadium . The chief guest of the programme was Shri Gopal Rai , Delhi Environment Minister.

Around 2,500 children from different schools in Delhi registered their participation in the programme, along with their respective Eco club incharges. Arwachin International School, Dilshad Garden, Delhi was represented by the Eco Club teachers Mrs. Rachna Kaur and Ms. Surbhi Sareen.

Shri Gopal Rai started the session by launching the ‘Green Action Plan for Delhi 2022-23’. He addressed Delhi’s  pollution problems and environmental concerns and said “Earth is our mother and the Delhi Government is doing everything possible to save and improve our mother nature”.

Working in this direction, the Delhi government first converted buses to CNG, and now electric buses are also on the roads of the city. As a result of the ongoing tree plantation campaign in Delhi, where the green area in the city was 20% in 2013, the government’s efforts have increased it to 23.06 percent in 2021. In addition, the government has launched a campaign called ‘Green Park Green Delhi’ with the goal of developing 10,000 world-class parks in Delhi.

Shri Gopal Rai gave some guidelines to reduce pollution in Delhi such as the engines of the vehicles to be turned off at red light signals, downloading the Green Delhi App and reporting pollution problems, disposing off e-waste to authorized agencies, planting saplings and protecting existing trees, outlawing the use of single-use plastic, etc. He further requested all the people present in the programme not to pollute or allow others to pollute the environment because the path to a better lifestyle can only be achieved with public participation.

To conclude the seminar, Shri Gopal Rai along with all the students and teachers from Eco Clubs, took a pledge to protect the environment and motivate everyone around them in making Delhi, a climate resilient city.

              ENVIRONMENT LITERACY PROGRAM

                                                                                                           ENVIRONMENT LITERACY PROGRAM

On 2nd and 3rd June,2022 at 11:00 A.M, a Webinar on the topic “ENVIRONMENTAL LEGAL LITERACY- ZERO WASTE LIFESTYLE” was organized by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA). The event was introduced by Sh. SushantChangotra, Additional Secretary, DSLSA. The resource person was Sh. Shivam Gupta from ‘SAAHAS NGO’.

In the beginning of the webinar Sh. Shivam Gupta introduced the theme of the session for the year 2022 i.e. ‘ONLY ONE EARTH’. He explained that the Zero-Waste Movement is an eco-friendly lifestyle that aims to reduce the amount of waste an individual creates on a daily basis. The webinar started with the concept of zero waste lifestyle.

The primary purpose of this lifestyle is a commitment to sending as little waste to landfills as possible. While it’s impossible to create zero waste, there are many ways to reduce consumption that can benefit the planet. This lifestyle reduces the harmful impact on our ecosystem, encouraging sustainable living, conserving finite resources, biodiversity, and a healthy, productive balance of organisms.

Furthermore, he gave some tips to help everyone transition into a zero waste lifestyle. Single-use plastics or paper goods like utensils, straws, paper towels, and plastic bottles contribute to the garbage and pollution. So, it is better to use reusable things when we go to the market like a stainless-steel thermos or sports bottle.

He also discussed that understanding our waste habits will give us an idea of what practices we need to refine to reduce our waste production. For example, if most of our waste is food waste, we will need to take steps to alter our shopping habits so that one only buys what one can reasonably consume.

He further discussed that there are many ways to recycle, from DIY repurposing old objects to sending used materials to facilities. Segregating waste materials into Wet, Dry and Domestic Hazardous waste. Making compost out of leftover food, eggshells, fruit peels etc. is also a great, natural way to nourish the soil.

He also suggested the use of Bio-enzyme cleaners to clean the kitchen and bathroom sink, pest control, water purifier etc. We can repurpose common household items such as an old bed sheet can be turned into a reusable tote for grocery shopping etc. Buying secondhand clothing at a thrift store is a great way to reuse pre-existing materials, rather than purchasing new, trendy, fast-fashion garments that are more likely to wind up in a landfill. He also suggested that there should be responsible disposal of electronic items to reduce the risk of poisoning the ground in landfills.

As educational institutions are the ambassadors of knowledge, they should take the initiative to spread the message of ‘Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature 'among the students and society and work for the benefit of the nation. Zero waste lifestyle may be a challenge but considering today’s times, it is the only way we can leave a resourceful planet for our future generations.
