          Pre-Primary Virtual Picnic, 28/08/2020

The pandemic, Covid 19 has compelled schools, institutions and National/ Multinational organizations, globally to suspend all the activities physically. But this cannot stop us from doing all that we can, to bring happiness on the faces of our tiny tots.

Thomas Berry said, “Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their life”.

With this intention, the Pre- Primary wing (LKG and UKG) of Arwachin International School, Dilshad Garden, planned a Virtual Picnic – ‘A tour to the Zoo’, on 28/08/20.

The tour to the zoo has always been a delight for the children as it offers a true multi-sensory approach to learning.

Everybody was very excited. Children had joined their virtual classes before the due time, ready in their picnic out fits and with their snacks.  Teachers welcomed their classes with the Morning Prayer, followed by their first greetings of the day.

The tour started with the song ‘We are going to the zoo’, that was enjoyed by the children and the parents alike. The children were sprightly up and buoyant to their boots as they spotted the majestic animals like Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Jaguars, Himalayan Bear, Hippopotamus, Gibbons and Elephants. Animals like Giraffe, Zebra, Elephant, and Monkey got the children excited, the most.

During the short snack break, UKG enjoyed the song, ‘Walking in the Jungle’ and LKG tapped feet to the songs like, ‘If I were an animal’ and ‘This is my happy song’. They also enjoyed the action song, ‘Stand Up – Sit Down’. The day ended with yet another fun-filled song, ‘Roar like a lion’ and all the kids enjoyed dancing to it.

The tour, sure encouraged the children to use their senses to take in their surroundings and expand their understanding about the animals, their environment, some special characteristics and habits.

To sum up, it was a day full of excitement, enjoyment and the children got some memories to cherish for a long time.

We extend special thanks to our Hon. Principal, Mrs. Nair for having faith in us as the responsibility and experience, of a virtual tour, was not only first-hand but new too.

FLY KITES WITHOUT MANJA: AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Kite flying is popular sport amongst young children and students and it catches pace weeks before, during and after the Independence Day celebrations in the month of August every year. However, kite flying by using thread made out of plastic, nylon or similar such synthetic material including popularly known "Chinese thread/manja" or any other thread coated with glass/metallic components causes a lot of injury to human beings and birds which many a times turns out to be fatal. So, to spread awareness among the students, a virtual Kite Flying event was organised by the Sports department of Arwachin International School on August 15, 2020 in which enthusiastic Arwachinians actively participated and learnt many lessons from their teachers. They were made aware of the kite flying threads being non-biodegradable, causes harm to the environment and sometimes result in flash-over on the power lines and sub-stations thereby causing power interruptions to consumers, strai ning and damaging electrical assets, causing accidents, injuries and loss of life. Students were encouraged to use cotton thread, free from any sharp/metallic/glass components/adhesives/thread strengthening materials and enjoy this traditional sport without causing harm to anyone. The event generated awareness and equal  compassion for birds and humans as well.
