Webinar on activities to enliven online classes
Education has changed drastically with the outbreak of Covid-19. There has been a distinct rise in e learning whereby teaching is on digital platform. Teaching fraternity adopted this change very swiftly.
To overcome one of the biggest challenges of grabbing the attention of the learners and exploring their full potential, teachers of Arwachin International School, Dilshad Garden, attended a webinar on how to make online classes lively on June 16, 2020. It was
            organized by Orient Blackswan publishers.
The speaker of the day was Ms Monisha Gupta, the principal presenter of examinations and teacher trainer with the Cambridge University, UK and had trained many teachers and students. She is also working as a resource person with the British Council and has many more credits to her name.
Ms. Gupta stressed on involving the learners of all the age groups during the online classes. She said that the impact of the education would be greater if the learning objectives and learning outcomes are clear in the mind of the teachers. She shared easy warm up activities like Adjective game, simple mathematical operations, general GK questions etc to be asked from the learners in the beginning of the class.
She reminded everyone to have more of student talk than teacher talk. Teachers should ask open ended questions which involve critical and creative thinking. She cited many examples where all the five senses of the learners can be involved to teach the concept. Calling out the names of the students occasionally would make them alert listeners.
It was a well presented, very interactive and highly informative session.

Kaleido Education hosted an international webinar on Tuesday 9th June 2020 on the topic ‘Essential Elements of Early Childhood Education’ which was attended by our pre-primary teachers. The speakers of the webinar were:

Sara Wrenham - Co-author Jolly Phonics.

Dominique Chiquet - Founder Motor Skill Learning Academy Switzerland

Denise Gagne - Chief Editor Themes & Variations.

Chip Colquhoun - Chief Operating Phoenix Epic Tales.

In the session they emphasized upon the different aspects required for the overall development of the children. As per Ms. Sara Wrenham , at such young age teaching phonics plays a very important role, it teaches children how to decode letters into their respective sounds, a skill that is essential for them to read  unfamiliar words independently.

Mr.Dominique focused on developing the Gross motor skills which help children gain strength and confidence in their body. Developing these skills helps a child’s ability to do more complex skills in future activities.

Ms. Denise stressed upon the fact that music (singing and dancing) plays a vital role during the early years of childhood. Even when a child hasn’t developed the ability to speak, but he can easily respond to music and can express himself/herself effortlessly.

Mr. Chip highlighted the importance of story-telling and how it assists a teacher in creating magic and a sense of wonder for the children. Stories teach us about life, about ourselves and about others. Story telling is a unique way for the tiny learners  to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures. It also generates the power of imagination and the ability of problem solving.

Our erudition from the session is that when young children are consistently engaged in the activities at an appropriate age, they benefit at many levels including physical, creative, social, emotional, quantitative and early literacy. It was indeed a mesmerizing session.

Webinar on Understanding and Implementation of Competency Based Education (CBS)

A webinar was hosted by the Goyal Brother Prakashan on 4th June 2020 for the CBSE schools to understand the relation and follow the learning outcomes approach in teaching and learning, as it is central to the CBE -Competency Based Education. It was attended by the science teachers of Arwachin International School, Ms. Akshima Sharma, Mrs. SandhyaPandey, Mrs. Surya Lakshmi, Mrs. Mansi Priya, Mrs. Sunita Suri, Mrs. Ambika Verma, Mrs. Sutekshna, Mrs. Sangita Sharma, Mrs. Shruti Mishra and Mrs. Leeja Srigil  .

The resource person Ms.Bindu Sahdev highlighted that Competency Education is not an extra program, it is rebuilding and replanning a different approach of lessons around learning designed for success. It emphasizes on ‘Competency’ which is a combination of skills, knowledge, characteristics and traits which contributes to high performance on a particular task.

The session involved lesson planning, comparison of traditional method of learning outcomes with CBE and the need to consider it at school level. CBE caters to experiential pedagogy-ENGAGE where each letter stands for E- energise leaners, N- navigate content, G-generate meeting, A-apply to real life, G-guage the learning, E- extend”, which helps to check to what degree the content of subjects is significant and appropriate for the developmental levels of students. Thus to develop the 21st century skills, there is a need to apply and enhance the role of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence, STEM, Robotics, Electronic Libraries, Web Portals etc to implement CBE.

This webinar proved worthy for the teachers to enhance their competencies and provide appropriate recognition to their respective subjects. With the implementation of CBE, the teachers can also give timely feedback and allow active participation to create a climate of respect and encourage collaborative approach among students.

Are Extra Curricular activities Really Extra?

A webinar was organized by the Rocksport on June 01, 2020. The subject of the webinar was “Are Extra Curricular activities Really Extra?

The panelists included eight eminent speakers, thetop educators, from Delhi, Dehradun, Noida, Kanpur, Phagwara and Coimbatore.  Mrs.Swapna Nair, the Honourable Principal of Arwachin International School, Dilshad Garden, represented Delhi.

All the panelists shared their ideas on the topic, “Are Extra Curricular activities Really Extra?”

The common consent was that though education plays a vital role in the life of a student, extracurricular activities are an equally integral part of it, necessary for the overall development of a child. All of them talked about various activities that they organize at their school for the children to bring out the best in their students.

The most beautiful thought that came up during the discussion was that,‘7 DAYS WITHOUT EXERCISE MAKES ONE WEAK’, and this resonated so perfectly with the thoughts of  J.F.Kennedy, where he said that, “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” We cannot deny the fact that sports do not only teach us how to remain healthy and fit but also helps us to stay calm and composed even against the most trying situations.

Mrs. Nair concluded with the information that there are certain activities in every sphere that every child can participate in but we need to make the children aware of them. She further said that the children can be encouraged to be a part of some club or sports but a lot depends on the space and facilities available in the school. She even said that for better results we need effective and efficient faculty so that the children can be encouraged and made passionate about those activities.

Overall it was a very enlightening and informative webinar.
