Is vegetarianism a way of life?

The introduction of Perspectives as a discipline of learning indicates a need for a deep insight into the subject matter in a particular context. It enables the young learners to critically evaluate events, materials, ideas and other real life experiences and take their own stand and form their own opinions beyond stereotypes. They are able to develop independent judgments. They also appreciate others’ opinions. Finally they arrive at an informed decision.

In recent years there has been an increasing awareness about vegetarianism. People are encouraged to be vegetarians but there are many non vegetarians who argue that even plants feel pain. They are taken out of the Earth, chopped with sharp knife and churned in high speed blenders. Then what is the hue and cry on slaughtering the animals?

The first theme of Perspective was Is vegetarianism a way of life?” . Various rounds of discussion and debates were conducted. The students were divided into small groups. They worked in teams to collect their data from various sources. This included interviews of the parents, grandparents, neighbours, dieticians, nutritionists, doctors etc. They even collected data from the various articles of the newspaper. The learners google searched various statistic figures and facts about the chosen theme. Finally each group made a PPT and gave a class presentation.

The whole process of research, exploration and discussion was very informative.

    Japanese Language Education Workshop

A workshop was organized by The Japan Foundation on 29th August 2016 for the teachers of Japanese language teaching at the schools of Delhi NCR. Mrs. Kanika Tiwari from our school attended the workshop to gauge knowledge about the latest development in the area of Japanese learning.

It was a day long workshop and it was divided into three sessions, namely, “Let’s enjoy writing compositions”, “Course design using (Marugoto)”;”Let’s try using (Marugoto)”.

It was a good learning experience as we got to learn about new techniques of teaching Essay-writing in Japanese. We were also educated about the course design of the book “Marugoto” and how effectively we can use it in our classrooms.

We were enlightened to learn the new ways and methods of teaching and learning and also wish to be a part of such workshops in future as well.

The students of Class XI and XII of Arwachin International School along with the principal Mrs. Gracy Peter and their Japanese language teacher Mrs. Kanika Tiwari, attended a seminar organized by University Of Tokyo on 2nd August 2016 at Japan Foundation. The seminar was conducted by the representatives of Tokyo University India Office and it was supported by Ritsumeikan University and Embassy of Japan. H.E Japanese Ambassador Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu was the chief guest for the day.

The seminar was organized to motivate the students of Class XI and XII to go to Japan for their Higher Studies.  Our students got a chance to get "Free Consultation" by Japanese Government Agencies and various Japanese Universities.

They guided our students about the application procedure and the scholarships one can avail to enroll for various undergraduate courses.

It was a wonderful opportunity as it motivated our students to consider Japan as a creditable option for their higher studies.
