ROBOTICS

The Robotics Club

A robotics club for classes 4 to 6 was conducted successfully in the academic year 2015 – 16. The students have hands on experience with robots and making simple machines. The students have enthusiastically taken up to be a part of the Club which is conducted once in a week. The students have been provided with a beginner’s kit of robots called i-pitara kits. They have been trained under the able guidance of our instructor Mrs. Anjali Sharma.  The kit consists of main processor for the robot and several other parts which can easily be used to build a robot. In the initial sessions, the students were introduced to what robotics is and what robots actually do. Then, gradually, they were taught about the different parts of the kit and how to use each part.

It was a golden chance for the young aspirants to participate in the club and be future experts in robotics. This is just a stepping stone and the students have indeed taken their first step for classes 4 to 6. The same club with level- II has been started successfully for the academic year 2016 – 17.

Learning robotics has helped students in different life skills like: -

  • Robots have an intellectual and emotional appeal that transcends any other type of engineered product.
  • Robots inculcate an interest in science and increase self-esteem, as well as teach basic life skills such as problem solving, decision making, goal setting and logical thinking.
  • Robots represent a practical application of physics, computer science, engineering, and mathematics, and may be used to speculate about concepts of humanities.
  • Robotics in the classroom offers teachers the opportunity to bring together many different areas of study.
  • It also allows students the chance to realize their full potential, moving from possibility to reality through a hands-on process that uses their many skills as a human being including cooperative problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Robotics its-self is a discipline worth to study because the robots are no longer restricted to the factory floor or hazardous environments, robots are making their way into human environments.

The Robotics Club

A robotics club has been started in our school organized by Mindbox in cooperation with VEX Robotics. Supervised by Mrs. Anshu Sharma, the students have a hands on experience with robots and programming robots. 14 students of our school from classes 7 to 12 have enthusiastically taken up to be a part of the Club which is conducted once a week. The students have been provided with a beginner’s kit of robots by VEX Robots, a US based company which are used by them in every Robotics Club session under the able guidance of our instructor of robotics, Mr. Yogendra. The kit consists of a VEX IQ Brain which is the main processor for the robot and several other parts which can easily be used to build a robot. In the initial sessions, the students were introduced to what robotics is and what robots actually do. Then, gradually, they were taught about the different parts of the kit and how to use each part. Initially, the students were not able to recognize parts as screws, beams, connectors, shafts or gears but slowly and steadily they came on the track and learnt to call things by their technical names.

It is a golden chance for the young aspirants to participate in the club and be future experts in robotics. This is just a stepping stone and the students have indeed taken their first step. In one of the sessions, the students were given a task to make and program a basic four wheel robot called the Base Robot and make it go around a certain track. It was brilliant to see the healthy competition the students had and the way they desperately wanted to win the challenge over. Recently, they also built a claw for the base robot and programmed it to pick up things.

It is indeed very interesting and the students can hardly wait for another week for the next Robotics Club session to take place. We are looking forward to a bunch of students coming up as expert robot makers in the future.
